Good to hear Oli Beckinsale praising the state of MTB in the UK with lots of talent starting to come through.

Did Nino take a wide line to allow Tom on to the front?

Looked like that to me - he’s done that a couple of times!

I don't ever want anyone to beat Nino.... Unless it's Tom!

Massive efforts!

Nino might get swallowed up at this rate into a big battle for 2nd and 3rd.

Amazing race

the constant efforts into the red look absolutely brutal however. Not something I think I’d enjoy!

Sounds like he did amazingly well to nurse the bike through those last few laps. What a great racer.

And some if the comments I've seen are wondering if the UCI hadn't brought tom forward, Sam gaze would have won

Bit rubbish.

Excellent race, I thought.

Looked at the line that Sam gaze was a not over happy.

Air horns need banning. I had to watch most of that with the TV on mute. Must be horrendous to be in the crowd stood next to some **** giving it paarp paarp paarp every 30 seconds.

Ended up watching it on iPlayer (as Eurosport seemed to have screwed it up)...  who was the lady commentator?  I thought she was very good.

Air horns, clackers, bells etc should be mandatory for all spectators.

A race without would be awful.

i was at salmon ladder all race and the atmosphere was electric. Horns, bells, saucepan lids all in scrim and I wouldn’t have it any other way

I was wondering what happened to MVP. I was at the salmon ladder when the crash happened - could hear the crowd in front of the big TV go 'ooh' but couldn't see the screen or hear the commentary.

Great atmosphere at all the spots I was at. Cowbells, vuvuzelas, airhorns, all good!

Watched on gcn, air horns etc helped with the atmosphere imo. I've memories of mundane xc footage without from 20 odd years ago made more mundane by light applause as riders went past.

I found Oli calling schurter, shooter all the time more irritating,

Great race - spotted Pidcock pointing at his bike as he went through the pits and wondered if there might be an issue (but the commentary team didn't notice it)

Was worried that Gaze might catch Pidcock with the way he was gaining on him.

The atmosphere looked great - was glad there weren't any morons revving the nuts off chainsaws as heard at some races!

They were banned - quite rightly.

Commentary team did mention but couldn't work out the problem. There was discussion that TP could not change gears.

I wonder whether he had a cleat problem - his left foot unclipped twice,

He mentioned post race that his rear mech was loose, so shifting was crap/he was worried it wouldn’t make the end.

Jack Carthy looked like he got lost on the way to the XC… but yeah, it’s like when I watch snooker, I go to play pool thinking it’s easy and am shit, so when I try and hop up a kerb, having watched this, I’ll destroy a rim.

Cracking day (ignoring my youngests meltdown mid womens race). Great atmosphere, great racing, great track, great spectators. Everything was great. Particularly liked the amount of support the back markers were getting. Thus ends my report. Have some photos:

Tom was not brought forward, he started 5th row on merit. The only riders brought forward were MVDP & Sagan.

Seconded, the chap called her Andrea and she sounded French. Apparently she’s Swiss?

yes the BBC team spotted it, we noticed pidders didn’t change gear much so we wondered if his mech had failed, but he did change: at the end of the race he said his mech felt loose and his  gears were jumping so he didn’t want to put too much pressure on it. Did well on a bike in that state didn’t he?!

EDIT: Andrea Sauser, and the chap was Matt Payne
